Generative-AI capture

Continia Document Capture can use an AI model to capture all values of a document in a single step. When generative AI capture is enabled, the model is able to read PDFs and return their header and/or line values.

Values are written directly into the document’s fields, so you don’t need to define coordinates or captions for them. This makes generative-AI capture useful for documents that the classic capture methods struggle with, such as very complex documents or those with irregular layouts.

Generative-AI capture only fills out fields defined on the template. If it refers to a field that doesn’t exist, that entry is ignored. Values that aren’t in the document are left blank, rather than guessed.

Scope

• This feature only applies to PDF files.

Prerequisites

Before setting up generative-AI capture in Document Capture, you must set up an AI provider and activate this capability. For more information, see Continia AI capabilities.

To enable generative-AI capture

1. Search () for and select Continia AI Capabilities.
2. Select Generative AI Capture and, on the action bar, click Activate.
3. On the action bar, click Settings.
4. Select the desired model and click OK.

To capture document values with generative AI

1. Search () for and select Document Categories.
2. Click the desired category code (e.g.: PURCHASE) to open the document journal.
3. Select the desired invoice and, on the action bar, click AI Capability > Run Generative AI Capture.

To set up a template for generative-AI capture

1. Search () for and select Document Categories.
2. Click the desired category code (e.g.: PURCHASE) to open the document journal.
3. Select the desired document and, on the action bar, click Template > Template Card.
4. Optional: to configure the template to always use generative-AI capture, set Line Recognition Method to Generative AI on the General FastTab, under Line Recognition.
5. On the AI Capability FastTab, under Capture, configure the following settings:
   1. Capture Header - if enabled, the document header is captured with generative AI, rather than Document Capture's classic capture.
   2. Maximum Pages - set the maximum number of document pages that can be processed with the AI model for this template. If a value isn't set, the limit set on the AI Capability FastTab on the Document Capture Setup page is used.
   3. Custom Instructions - set the prompt to be used for this template, in addition to the company-level prompt – if any. Neither prompt overrides the built-in rules.

To set up a company for generative-AI capture

1. Search () for and select Document Capture Setup.
2. On the AI Capability FastTab, configure the following settings:
   1. Maximum Pages - set the maximum number of document pages that can be processed with the AI model for all templates. The limit set on individual templates can be lower than this value, but not higher.
   2. Company Instructions - set the prompt to be used for all templates. The prompt set on individual templates is added to the company-level prompt, but neither overrides the built-in rules.

To access the generative-AI capture logs

1. Search () for and select Document Categories.
2. Click the desired category code (e.g.: PURCHASE) to open the document journal.
3. Select the desired invoice and, on the action bar, click AI Capability > Show Generative AI Logs. Alternatively, click the status of the Generative AI Status field.
4. Click the desired run time to access its log.
5. To see the values captured by the AI model and their corresponding fields, click the value in Values Captured.

What data is shared

When you use the generative-AI capture feature, some data is shared with the AI provider behind the model you selected for the task.
