Setup FAQ

If you're having trouble setting up Continia Banking, this FAQ addresses common issues and provides solutions.

Can I use Continia Banking only for payment exports?

Yes. You can use Continia Banking for payment exports without enabling bank statement import or bank account reconciliation. You can then use the standard bank reconciliation functionality in Business Central.

Banking import is active only when both of the following apply:

  • Continia Banking is enabled.
  • The bank account has an enabled Account Statements or Transactions communication setup.

This allows you to decide whether a bank account is used for payment export only or for both payment export and bank account reconciliation.

To use payment exports only, make sure the bank account does not have an enabled communication setup for Account Statements or Transactions. If neither communication setup is enabled, import and reconciliation are not activated for the bank account.

The following import-related processes are available only when a relevant communication setup is enabled:

  • Bank account reconciliation
  • Statement import
  • Transaction matching
  • Bank account posting
  • Direct debit return handling
  • Undo and reverse actions
  • Statement numbering
  • Job queue imports

Payment exports continue to work regardless of whether import and reconciliation are enabled.

Can I turn off the IBAN lookup if we maintain bank details in another system?

Yes. You may want to disable the IBAN lookup if your organization already maintains bank account information through an external system. In that case, running additional bank information lookups may be unnecessary. It can also result in extra cost and duplicate processes that are already handled elsewhere.

Disabling the IBAN lookup affects the creation and maintenance of bank accounts. When users create or update bank account records, bank details are no longer automatically validated or enriched through the external lookup service. If bank details are managed through another system, make sure the required information is entered and maintained from that source instead.

You disable the lookup per scenario, such as Vendor Bank Account or Assisted Bank Account Setup, on the External Service Policy page. You can enable the service again at any time, or use Reset to Default to restore the recommended settings.

For more information, see Disabling the IBAN lookup.

Why don't I see all assisted setups after installing Continia Banking?

Symptoms

After you install Continia Banking, only one assisted setup is available instead of all the expected assisted setups.

Possible causes

  • Not all Continia Banking apps are installed.

Solution

  1. Search () for and select Continia Banking Setup.
  2. On the action bar, click Actions > Troubleshooting.
  3. On the Troubleshooting - Continia Banking page, click Actions > Setup & Maintenance > App Management.
  4. Check whether all apps are installed. If an app is not installed, click it to install it.

When do I need to change the Unique Transaction Identifier?

The Unique Transaction Identifier field on the Continia Banking Setup page specifies how unique transaction IDs are formatted in Continia Banking, such as Payment Information IDs and End-to-End IDs. The following formats are available:

  • Unique Company Id + Date + GUID (28 characters)
  • Unique Company Id + DateTime (18 characters)
  • Unique Company Id + DateTime (16 characters)
  • Unique Company Id + DateTime (15 characters)

In most cases, you don't need to change this setting. Change it only if your bank can't process identifiers of the configured length. Banks that don't support the length report this when you submit a payment or direct debit file. To confirm the accepted length in advance, ask your bank.
