Setting up Azure Blob Storage

Continia Document Output provides strong document file archiving capabilities with easy integration with Azure Blob Storage. To begin using Azure Blob Storage, follow the processes described here in the given order.

Prerequisites

Before configuring Azure Blob Storage as your document storage type, you need to set up an Azure Blob Storage account and container. For more information, see Create an Azure storage account and Authorize access to data in Azure Storage (Microsoft articles).

Wichtig

It's strongly recommended that you enable blob soft delete for your Azure Blob Storage accounts, as this allows you to restore any documents or files that were deleted or overwritten by accident.

Warnung

It's crucial that your Continia application has full read/write/delete access to the relevant blob container. For example, configuring access policies with time-based retention isn't supported, and neither are immutability and legal hold.

To set up Azure Blob Storage for Document Output

  1. Search () for and select Document Output Setup.
  2. On the Email Log FastTab, click the dropdown by the Log Storage Type field and select Azure Blob Storage.
  3. If your current document storage type is Database and you already have documents stored, you're asked if you want to migrate to Azure Blob Storage or switch to it without migrating.
  4. Under Azure Blob Storage, in the Authentication field, click the text (Not Configured) to open the Set up Azure Blob Storage Account dialog.
  5. Configure the settings based on the values from when you set up the storage account and container:
    • Authentication Type: Select one of the options below, and enter the corresponding credentials:

      • Shared Key – enter your storage account key.
      • Shared Access Signature – enter your shared access signature.
      • Service Principal (Microsoft Entra ID) – enter your tenant ID, client ID, and secret.

      Note

Microsoft recommends the service principal (Microsoft Entra ID) authentication type. For more information, see Authorize access to data in Azure Storage (Microsoft article).

    • Storage Account Name: Enter a free-text name for the account, such as mystorageaccount.

    • Blob Container Name: Enter the name of the blob container in which files are stored. This must match the name of the container in the Azure portal.

    • Use Private Endpoint: Enable this if you want to use a private Azure Blob Storage endpoint URL instead of the default URL. This is normally only required by large organizations.

  6. Fill in the remaining field(s), depending on what you selected under Authentication Type in step 5 above:
    • If you selected Shared Key, fill in Storage Account Key.This must match the access key for your Azure Storage account, found in the Azure portal under Access Keys.
    • If you selected Shared Access Signature, fill in Shared Access Signature. This must match the SAS token for your Azure Storage account, generated in the Azure Portal under Shared Access Signature.
    • If you selected Service Principal (Microsoft Entra ID), fill in Tenant ID, Client ID, and Secret with the details from your Microsoft Entra app registration in the Azure portal.
