Preparing for bank account reconciliation
Before you start reconciling bank statements with Continia Banking, you must prepare your bank accounts and existing entries. Proper preparation ensures that only relevant transactions are included in reconciliation and that automatic matching works as expected.
This article explains the recommended preparation steps before you begin using bank account reconciliation with Continia Banking.
Why preparation is important
When you start reconciling bank statements, Continia Banking searches for open bank account ledger entries and attempts to match them with imported transactions. If old or previously reconciled entries are still open, they can interfere with matching and lead to incorrect reconciliation results.
Preparing your data helps to exclude historical transactions that are no longer relevant, reduce the number of unmatched lines, improve automatic matching accuracy, and establish a clean starting point for reconciliation
To close existing bank account ledger entries
Before performing your first reconciliation, we recommend closing all open bank account ledger entries up to a specific date. This ensures that reconciliation starts from a defined point in time.
To close bank account reconciliation:
- On the Bank Acc. Reconciliation page, select Home > Suggest Lines.
- On the Suggest Bank Acc. Recon. Lines dialog box, navigate to the Date fields to select the dates and select OK.
- On the action bar, select Matching > Match Automatically.
- Make sure that the amount in the Total Balance field is the same as the amount in the Statement Ending Balance field and fill in the Statement Date.
To close old statements from Bank Transactions - Continia Banking
If you have imported bank transactions or statements before starting reconciliation, you may need to mark them as processed to prevent them from interfering with new reconciliations.
You can do this from the Bank Transactions – Continia Banking page.
To close old statements:
- Search (
) for and select Bank Transactions - Continia Banking. - In the left panel, set the following filters:
- Bank Account No. - enter the bank account you want to close records for.
- Record Type - select Account Statement.
- Record Subtype - select Header.
- Locate the Imported to Company cell.
- On the action bar, click Set Imported to Company.
This marks the selected statements as processed and prevents them from being reimported or considered during reconciliation.
