Report override
In Continia Document Output, reports – along with report layouts – are used to create the documents that are sent. The way they're used for this is configured either globally or per customer in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
If you want your report setup to differ from the standard global or customer setup in certain circumstances, you can do so in Document Output by configuring a custom setup at template line level on the Email Template Card. Because such custom report setups override the standard report setups, this functionality is commonly referred to us the report override feature.
Tip
You can set up a whole chain of reports per template line and specify which order the different reports should have in that chain. You do so by entering sequence numbers for all report lines on the Email Template Line Report Layout page, as described below.
To configure reports at line level
To create a custom report setup for an email template line, follow these steps:
Search () for and select Email Templates.
In the list of templates, in the Code column, select the template whose lines you want to edit. The Email Template Card opens.
On the Email Template Line FastTab, in the list of template lines, select the one that you want to configure a report for.
In the FastTab title bar, click Email Template > Reports to open the Email Template Line Report Layout page.
Note
This is the report override page. You can also open it straight from the line on the Email Template Line FastTab, simply by clicking the field in the Reports column.
Select the report line that you want to edit (usually the top one first).
Fill in the fields as needed:
Sequence: If there are more than one report line, enter the sequence number that you want to assign to the selected line. The lower the number, the higher it's placed in the chain of reports, meaning that the line with the lowest number (for example, 0) appears first.
Report ID: Enter or select the ID of the report that you want to assign to this report line.
Report Name: Enter a name for the report that's assigned to the line.
File Name: Enter a free-text name for the file that will be generated (the report printout), as recipients see it. Include the extension after the name, such as .pdf or .docx. You can use merge fields in the name – for example, %1.
Combined Docs. File Name: Enter a free-text name for the file that will be generated (multiple documents combined into one file), as recipients see it. Include the extension after the name, such as .pdf or .docx. You can use merge fields in the name – for example, %10. See also Combining Documents.
Custom Report Layout Description: Not editable. This is autofilled with the description of the report layout that you select under Report Layout.
Report Layout: Select the report layout that you want to use for this report line.
Output Format: Select a format that matches the format of the layout you selected under Report Layout above. If the two formats don't match, creating and applying the report will fail at a later stage.
Tip
For example, if you selected a layout with (Word) in its name under Report Layout – such as Standard Sales Invoice Email (Word) – you must select Word under Output Format. This determines what file engine to use.
Saved Request Page: Not selectable. To set up a request page for the line, go to the action bar and click Request Page > Set Request Page.
Note
This selects the corresponding box in the report line. To clear this box and remove the saved request page, click Delete Request Page.
One Page Document Background: Select either First Page Background or Last Page Background to specify which you want to use in case of one-page report printouts.
Background PDF: Not selectable. To add a background PDF for the line, go to the action bar and click Background PDF > Set Background PDF, and then add the PDF by dragging it or browsing for it.
First Page Background PDF: Not selectable. To add a first-page background PDF for the line, go to the action bar and click First Page Background PDF > Set Background PDF, and then add the PDF by dragging it or browsing for it.
Last Page Background PDF: Not selectable. To add a last-page background PDF for the line, go to the action bar and click Last Page Background PDF > Set Background PDF, and then add the PDF by dragging it or browsing for it.
Note
For each of the background options, the corresponding box will be automatically selected in the report line. To clear this box and remove the added background, click Delete Background PDF. You can also download the added background by selecting Show Background PDF.
Merge PDF file: Not selectable. To add a particular PDF to the report printout for the line, go to the action bar and click Merge PDF > Set Merge PDF File, and then add the PDF by dragging it or browsing for it.
Important
In contrast to all other options on the Email Template Line Report Layout page, this does not override any global or customer settings (in this case, any merge PDFs that have been added elsewhere) – it simply adds another merge PDF in addition to any other added merge PDFs.
To clear the box in the report line and remove the merge PDF, click Delete Merge PDF File. You can also download the merge PDF by selecting Show Merge PDF File.
If your custom report setup for the selected line should have more reports in sequence, add another line to the list and then repeat steps 5-6 for each additional report you want to add.
You've now created a custom report setup for the selected email template line. This custom report setup will override the standard global or customer setup according to the template line settings.
