Setting up Continia Sustainability
The Continia Sustainability Setup page allows you to configure key metrics and settings that define how carbon accounting is managed within your organization. From enabling automated posting, setting emission posting dates to customizing units for fuel efficiency, these settings help tailor the system to your specific reporting needs. This guide walks you through the options available on the Setup page, ensuring that you can optimize your Continia Sustainability configuration for accurate and effective environmental impact tracking.
To access the Continia Sustainability Setup page:
- Use the
icon, enter Continia Sustainability Setup, and select the related link.
- You can work with the following settings:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Allowing Posting From | Define the start date for when emission posting is permitted. |
Allowing Posting To | Define the end date for when emissions posting is permitted. |
Organizational Boundaries | Specifies the organizational boundaries type for what concerns carbon accounting. The options are:
|
Calorific Fuel Value | The Calorific Fuel Value feature provides you the option to select between Gross Calorific Value (CV) or Net Calorific Value (CV). This functionality is especially relevant for certain Emission Factor Sets like DEFRA and for specific customers who need to report on energy use.
|
Include Indirect Effect from Air (Radiative Forcing) | By enabling this feature, you can include the indirect impacts of air pollutants, especially radiative forcing, in your calculations of emissions. This feature takes into account the influence of certain air pollutants on climate change. |
Electricity Unit Code | Specifies the default unit code for energy, so that when creating a new card or line, the Unit Code field is automatically prefilled with the metric selected here. Currently, the only available option is kWh. |
Emission Factor Year | This option allows you to choose whether to base the Emission Factor Year on the Fiscal Starting Year or the Fiscal Ending Year. This choice enables the system to automatically select the appropriate version of the emission factor set based on user preference and the availability of multiple versions. By aligning with either the starting or ending financial year, users can ensure that the system retrieves the most relevant and up-to-date emission factor set version. For example, if your financial year begins in September 2024 and ends in August 2025, it is recommended to select the emission factors for the calendar year that covers the majority of your reporting period—2025 in this case. Therefore, you would choose the option Fiscal Ending Year. Alternatively, if your financial year starts in April 2024 and ends in March 2025, it is advisable to use 2024 emission factors for reporting emissions throughout the financial year, including the period from January to March 2025. In this case, you would select the option Fiscal Starting Year. |
Use Only Current Year Emission Factor | This option ensures that only the emission factor version from the current fiscal year is used for all calculations. This approach is particularly important when correcting emissions from an earlier year, as it ensures consistency and accuracy by using the most relevant data. Some emission factor sets are not updated regularly, which can lead to discrepancies if older data is used. By switching this option on, you guarantee that your emissions reporting utilizes the latest and most precise emission factors available for the current fiscal year, thereby enhancing the reliability of your environmental impact assessments. |
Use Emissions in Purchase Invoices | Specifies whether Continia Sustainability fields are included in purchase invoices. When enabled, these fields are added to the Purchase Line and automatically populated—provided the corresponding Item or G/L Account has data configured in its Continia Sustainability FastTab. |
Automatically Post Environmental Entries by Default | If enabled, this setting lets you automatically bring in data from purchase invoices, item ledger entries, G/L entries, and expenses into the Environmental Journal. It also posts the entries automatically, so you don’t have to manually import data or post the journal yourself. However, if certain necessary data cannot be collected during the initial posting, the system will still proceed with the posting. A background job queue will then run to import these postings into the Environmental Journal. From there, you must complete the missing details and manually post the entry to ensure it appears in the reports. |
Decimals and Rounding | In this section, you can specify the precision and formatting of calculation results. This way, you can specify the desired number of decimal places for visualizing results accurately. The configurable fields include:
|
Reversal Source | Specifies the default source code to be applied automatically when reversing lines. |
Recalculation Source Code | Specifies the default source code for recalculation actions. This setting automatically populates the source code field with the specified value when recalculating lines. |
Default Fuel Efficiency Unit | Specifies the default unit code for fuel or vehicle efficiency, so that when creating a new card or line, the Unit Code field is automatically prefilled with the metric selected here. For example, MPS. |
Default Fuel/Bioenergy Unit Type | Specifies the default unit type for fuel or bioenergy, so that when creating a new card or line, the Unit Type field is automatically prefilled with the metric selected here. For example, Volume. |
Default Fuel/Bioenergy Unit Code | Specifies the default unit code for fuel or bioenergy, so that when creating a new card or line, the Unit Code field is automatically prefilled with the metric selected here. For example, L. |
PHEV Utility Factor | Specifies the default Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Utility Factor, which is the ratio of distance traveled in electric mode to the total distance traveled. This factor helps to determine the proportion of travel powered by electricity, providing a clear measure of the vehicle's efficiency and environmental impact. For more information about adding a hybrid vehicle, refer to the Add a vehicle article. |
Default Weight Unit Code | Allows users to define a default unit code for weight so that when creating a new card or line, the Unit Code field is automatically prefilled with the metric selected here. For example, kg. |
Use Continia's Emission Factors with Microsoft's Sustainability module | Enable this option if you want to continue using Business Central Sustainability while automatically applying Continia’s emission factor dataset. You can skip enabling this if you plan to use Continia Sustainability workflows. |
Sustainability Journal Template Name | Defines the name of the Sustainability Journal Template to be applied when posting lines in environmental journals. |
Sustainability Journal Batch Name | Specifies the name of the Sustainability Journal Batch to use when posting journal lines in environmental records. |
